Artist Statement

I paint inner portraits. They are concerned with the human condition; the difficulty of the duality within our consciousness and its transcendence. My paintings and drawings combine the essential and sensual, and the ever present human form. Symbolized through the feminine, she is Eros/Logos – the two halves of the whole. The Holy Hag series is a part of this portraiture. I call this body of work “Essensualism”.

I also paint outer portraits of the earth and cosmos. Called the Celestial Spaces series, they pertain to our cosmological condition; what is our relation to the stewardship of the seen and unseen universe?

The four artworks pictured here are representative of my work. These prints are offered in one of two ways – as seen her or modified with further explorations. Since I am interested in the moment “twix cup and lip” – how a pice can change dramatically with a few lines or colors – I paint or draw on the print, developing different elements within each piece. Sometimes the original is highlighted; sometimes completely obscured. These altered pieces are original and never duplicated.

I use a variety of medias in any one work, ranging from oils and enamels to acrylics, pencils and pastels. Each network is hand signed.
