Standing Room Only

Using the familiar images of benches and chairs, this exhibition by painters Justin David Gustafson and Ellen Nelson takes a deep look at the notions of presence and absence.  Does an empty bench imply only that there is no one there to fill it?  Can chairs themselves embody the human emotional experience?  ‘Standing Room Only’ hopes to put these questions and more on the table for a new experience in seating.

Divided by Definition

The student run art organizations at Gwen Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University have come together for a collaborative exhibit at the Saniwax Gallery. Each organization represents a different area of artistic concentration: Modern Painters Society (MPS)- the Painting program RSO (registered student organization), Contemporary Printmakers Society (CPS)- the Printmaking program RSO, Ceramics Guild (CG)- the Ceramics program RSO, and Photography and Intermedia Collective (PIC)- the Photography program RSO. Although these organizations are under one University, one school, one societal classification of artist, each young contemporary is unique in voice and expression. They are all bringing their own mediums and collaborating for the first time in the history of the Gwen Frostic School of Arts for the exhibit, Divided by Definition.
